Fast-rising stoner punks Bokassa hit the road this week with Puppy, concluding a hugely successful year which has seen them release their album Crimson Riders and tour with Metallica. We caught up with the band ahead of their final UK dates of 2019 to hear their top tips and stories from the road.
Favourite thing about touring:
Playing each night to people that love what we do, seeing new places, and trying great food! And the fact that load-ins aren’t till like 2 or 3 o’clock so you can sleep all day is also awesome.
Least favourite thing about touring:
Having to live with five other guys who have a too laid back relationship with personal hygiene.
Five essentials for the road:
– Snus (Norwegian tobacco)
– Noise cancelling headset
– iPad with offlined shows
– Shorts
– Anti-bac
Your favourite way to pass the time:
This is tied between sleeping while listening to records or watching TV shows you haven’t seen before. In my case Breaking Bad. That Walter White is quite the scalliwag!
“The Most”
Memorable moment:
When we midways during the tour got invited to do a live session for BBC Radio 1 at Maida Vale. Will remember that for a long time. Such an honour. It’s not been broadcast yet so listen out for it soon!
Hilarious moment:
When the elevator was too heavy and Olav had to leave.
Embarrassing moment:
Same as hilarious moment I guess…!
Outrageous moment:
We were stuck in London traffic for hours and don’t have a toilet on the bus, so just jumped off to go to the bathroom during the drive and then they just drove on without me! So then I had to get an Uber for 45 mins to get to the venue!
Drunken moment:
When some of our crew stole a golf cart and our tour manager went all Michael Caine on them!
Rewarding moment:
The people who know all our songs and lyrics. It’s so amazing that we play the wrong notes when we see it because it’s so cool to see.
