Reminders have shared a video for their new single If You Want It (Don’t Let Me Down), taken from their forthcoming album Best of Beach Punk.
This song was written during the beginning of my first serious relationship. I was nineteen, and experiencing all the highs and lows of truly caring for somebody for the first time. It hit me really hard, and with all the happiness that loving someone brought me, darker overtones showed up, too. I couldn’t work out if the feelings I had were unrequited and it was the first time in my life I felt super insecure and paranoid,” comments frontman Leo Dyke.
“It felt like a side of falling in love that nobody wanted to talk about, and I was terrified that I was putting my all into somebody who could so easily ‘let me down’, but then I figured that’s the risk you have to be willing to take. It was essentially me saying: this song isn’t supposed to impress you, but if you are ready, so am I—just please don’t prove these toxic thoughts that I’m having to be right. For any Beatles fans out there, it was certainly inspired by both John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Obviously by ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ From ‘Let It Be’, but also a song that Paul McCartney wrote for a band called Badfinger titled ‘Come And Get It’.”
