UK rockers Stone Broken are back with their stellar new album Revelation. Three years in the making, the band worked remotely with producer Dan Weller (Enter Shikari, Holding Absence, Bury Tomorrow) on their third full-length, experimenting with new sounds and pushing their creativity further than ever before. We caught up with drummer Robyn Haycock to find out more about the band, including their formation, influences, ambitions and future plans.
Firstly, tell us a bit about yourself and your band.
Hi, I’m Robyn and I’m the drummer for UK-based rock band Stone Broken, we’re a hard-hitting four-piece with huge riffs and big choruses.
How did the band form and how long have you been together?
Rich and I decided that we had enough of our boring 9-5 jobs and wanted to just get in a room and create music, something that we had taken a couple of years break from. So we decided to get a lock up where we could make as much noise as we wanted. Shortly after that, my parents were drinking in a local rock bar and found Kieron, they got talking and found out he played bass. We met up with Kie and found out we had a lot in common with each other, so decided we should have a jam and hang out. Kie knew Chris from a previous band they were both in, so we got Chris in for a jam and the rest is history, as they say. We officially formed in 2013, but for the first year decided it would be good to just write songs together and hang out most days and really get to know each other.
Can you remember the first time you realised you wanted to make music?
From a young age I’ve always been surrounded by music, either my mom or dad would be in the house listening to music and I’ve always been drawn to it. Throughout my school years I was always involved with the music productions, so it was inevitable I’d someday be creating and playing music as a career. When Stone Broken formed, I knew I was surrounded with like-minded people who shared the same vision, that’s when I knew I wanted to take it seriously and do this as a career.
Who and what are the band’s main influences?
We love a good hook! Songs that hit hard with massive choruses, some of the bands we’re loving at the moment are Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, Skillet and Normandie.
What do you aim to achieve as a band?
To bring people together from listening to our music, to help inspire people and to brighten up their day!
For those who are yet to see you live, what can they expect from a Stone Broken show?
We play each show like it’s our last, everything we bring to the stage gets left on the stage! We want the fans to have an amazing time and feel involved every step of the way!
What’s next for Stone Broken?
Our new album Revelation has just dropped which we are super excited about. We’re looking forward to shows throughout the year, as well as writing new songs!
