Between You & Me brought their Sh!t Yeah tour to Glasgow’s Cathouse for some Sunday night mayhem and we were maybe expecting a quieter night considering it was a Sunday. Not a chance! With one Australian and two American pop-punk bands on the cards tonight it was a full-on night.

Hailing from Albany, New York, Young Culture were the first band on the bill as they showcased their alternative punk-pop sound to the Glasgow crowd, this band have been around the block since forming in 2015 and they have three albums to date, the last one being You Had To Be There in 2022. Vocalist Alex Magnan received a loud cheer from the half-filled Cathouse as he took to the stage and fired straight into Better Off As Friends and Kinda Over It as he got a few fans singing along to the lyrics “One more call, too much to text/3am breakup, 4am sex”. They certainly got a proportion of the crowd onside and were a good choice of support for tonight with the music from all three bands having similar sound. We got to hear their latest release Jesus, which was produced alongside Daisy Grenade. The seven-track set ended with the popular Holiday In Vegas from their 2020 self-titled album. 7/10

Looking around the room during the interval we could see lots of Broadside t-shirts and it looked like we were in for a decent set from the Virginia, USA band. After the crowd pleasing Mr Brightside blasted over the speakers the charismatic singer Ollie Baxxter took to the stage with deafening screams from the younger and enthusiastic members of the packed room adding to the atmosphere. Broadside released their fourth album Hotel Bleu in November 2023 and we would get to hear three tracks from the album; Dazed & Confused, Cruel and One Last Time, and to be honest they could have easily been tonight’s headliners judging by the reaction from the crowd! The band also having a massive back catalogue to choose from after four album releases, they packed a decent nine tracks into their half hour set with Baxxter creating a good band/crowd connection throughout, the highlight being last track Foolish Believer when guitarist Dominic Reid swapped instruments with bass player Pat Diaz to the amazement of the crowd. The band mentioned that it had been six years since they played in Glasgow, let’s hope they don’t leave it so long next time! 8/10

Between You & Me were formed in Melbourne, Australia in 2016 and have released two studio album to date, Everything Is Temporary in 2018 and Armageddon in 2021 under the Hopeless label, but the band are now self producing their music. The set got off to a noisy start with Dakota, Supervillain and Nevermind with the enthusiastic crowd bringing unreal energy with mosh pits and crowd surfing being the order of play. Soon after the set began, bass player James Karagiozis requested a pint of venom (a famous Glasgow cocktail) and five minutes later two of these lovely green drinks turned up at the front barrier which he seemed to enjoy! A cover of Smash Mouth song All Star was one of the highlights of the set while vocalist Jake Wilson entertained the crowd with stories from the past including one from when the band were kicked out of a venue in Glasgow and Wilson spotted a guy who was at their gig the last time they played in the city around six years ago and apparently got him ’50 shots’. During the thirteen track set we got to hear two new tracks – In The Middle and Kill My Vibe being the titles – which went down well with the army of followers in the Cathouse tonight and a new album could be on the horizon in 2024. 8/10
