In some of the dimmest lighting ever encountered at a gig, devoted followers of Canadian Allie X (Alexandra Ashley Hughes) were treated to a repertoire of songs from her three albums which, collectively, have over half a billion streams on Spotify.
Support for Allie X was the visually alluring Colombian/Canadian Tei Shi whose musical style is described as a “layered masterpiece of melodies expertly entwined vocal loops and shivery sonics.” A perfect choice to accompany Allie X. 8/10
Opening up to tell the crowd “London, when I signed with Twin Records, my dream was to play at Koko, and here I am now, you have made my dream come true” in no time at all she had the fans in raptures. Her music is described as “soaring pop, borderline theatrical Disney” which is reflected in her costumes and cosmetics. Mesmerising to watch and compelling to hear, Allie X is totally unique, surely even bigger venues next time in the UK. 9/10
