ALBUM REVIEW: The Warning – Keep Me Fed

From playing Rock Band as kids, to opening for acts such as Metallica, Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless and more, and even making their debut appearance at the MTV VMAs in 2023, The Warning has had a steady increase in their careers these past 10-plus years. Two years after their last album, 2022’s ERROR, the trio are set to take their journey to new heights with their latest release: Keep Me Fed.

Right off the bat, listeners are immediately hooked by the 1-2 punch of Six Feet Deep and S!CK, with their punchy riffs and stomping drums, paving the way for the remaining 10 songs on the album. It’s clear that the Villarreal Vélez sisters have been perfecting their craft, while also honouring their roots with yet another track sung in their native Spanish, the bolstering Qué Más Quieres.

The performances are excellent across the board, with tracks such as Burnout, Satisfied or Hell You Call a Dream showcasing Alejandra’s bass playing, while the aggressive and ominous Sharks and surprising standout Consume see Paulina’s vocals shine alongside her powerful drumming, which is a standout throughout the whole record.

Daniela is excellent throughout these 12 songs as well, with her vocals echoing those of Heart’s Ann Wilson on Consume, while also showcasing the top end of her range on Hell You Call a Dream and her aggressive side with Apologize. Her guitar playing has also been taken up a notch since their last album, with influences of Muse’s Matt Bellamy rearing their heads on tracks such as Satisfied or Consume with their whammy-fuelled solos.

In the end, Keep Me Fed is a more than excellent follow-up to 2022’s ERROR; a collection of 12 songs which showcase The Warning’s evolution as musicians and songwriters. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for the three sisters, but if this record and its predecessor are any indication of what’s to come, then the future is bright for this trio. Felicidades, señoritas, y mucha suerte!
