Los Angeles-based rock duo Dead Posey are back with their hypnotic EP Malfunction, four tracks of provocative rock ‘n’ roll with an industrial edge. Influenced by the likes of The Kills, Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails, Dead Posey have been making big waves over the last few years: their single Don’t Stop The Devil has amassed over 20 million streams and the band’s music can be heard on TV shows such as Fox’s Lucifer, MTV’s Teen Wolf, Marvel shows Cloak & Dagger and Jessica Jones, Netflix’s Jack Whitehall – Travels With My Father, as well as adverts for Taco Bell and Sony PlayStation (to name but a few!). We caught up with Dead Posey to find out where it all started, what they aim to achieve and more.
Firstly, tell us a bit about yourself and your band.
We’re a wedded duo from Los Angeles. Danyell is the lead singer/producer and Tony is guitarist/multi-instrumentalist/producer. We make rock n roll music and enjoy anything subversive and twisted. Our new EP Malfunction is out now.
How did the band form and how long have you been together?
We emerged from the primordial soup of the LA music scene and had a musical courtship for a couple years before fully committing to being in a band together (which was about 3 years ago). Once we did it was eat-sleep-breathe Dead Posey, for better or worse, til death do us part.
Can you remember the first time you realised you wanted to make music?
The first time we realised we wanted to make music TOGETHER was when on a whim we decided to record a slightly inebriated cover of Nirvana’s Come As You Are. We had no idea at the time, but the seeds of Dead Posey were planted on that night.
Who and what are the band’s main influences?
The Kills, Marilyn Manson, NIN, Depeche Mode, Garbage, and Joy Division. Artists that are provocative and have sensuality and depth to them. Dark, twisted and a little otherworldly.
What do you aim to achieve as a band?
Playing on all seven continents. Make a music video directed by David Lynch. Have Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame ripped out of the ground and replaced with ours.
For those who are yet to see you live, what can they expect from a Dead Posey show?
As they say, “Talking about music is like dancing about architecture” – so they have to come experience it for themselves (when live shows are a thing again).
What’s next for Dead Posey?
Writing and recording our first full length album. Filming more music videos and touring when the virus lets up. Attempting to stay sane in an insane world.
