Australia’s Tropical Fuck Storm have announced their new 7-inch Legal Ghost, due for release on 11th September 2020 via Joyful Noise Recordings. The two tracks were recorded at Dodgy Brothers Studio in Central Victoria before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the band to stay indoors.
The title-track Legal Ghost first came to light in the 90’s and originally appeared on Gareth Liddiard and original Drones member Rui Pereira’s four-track recording Bong Odyssey, which was written and recorded pre-Drones.
“This is the first song I ever wrote that I thought was actually a decent song,” Liddiard explains. “Everything before it was kinda a big tantrum, but this song had a touch of class. When I was putting together the Bong Odyssey record a few years ago, I heard it again and thought this was something that could work really well with TFS, although the original was really cool, it still sounded more like a sketch of a song, and wasn’t quite fully realised, so I took the song to TFS and we fleshed it out a bit.”
The B-side of Legal Ghost is a version of Talking Heads‘ Heaven, which was also recorded on the same four-track record over twenty years ago. The song features guest performers Don Don and H’y, on pedal steel and violin, respectively.
