Dream Nails have released new track This Is The Summer, ahead of the release of their debut self-titled album on Friday (28th August 2020) via Alcopop! Records.
Speaking about the track, vocalist Janey Starling explains: “This Is The Summer is a song about how our climate is breaking down irreversibly. Colonial capitalism, waged by UK governments and corporations for centuries, has ravaged our earth.” She continues, “we need to be urgently fighting for migrant rights so the UK welcomes climate refugees displaced by countries hit by extreme weather. We must demand transparency from oil companies who relentlessly put profit before people, even as the world burns.”
“We wrote This Is The Summer in the heatwave of 2018, recorded it in another heatwave in 2019 and now we are releasing it in yet another heatwave! Our video for the track shows how the current pandemic, white supremacy and climate change are not separate issues but interlinked. The song is about the brazen complacency of getting drunk and catching a tan in the park while the world burns,” adds guitarist Anya Pearson.
A video for the track has also been released, which you can check out below. Directed by Guen Murroni, the video was filmed with a woman, nonbinary and trans crew involved behind the scenes.
Dream Nails will be celebrating the release of their album with a House Party live stream, the first of which will be taking place on Saturday 5th September 2020 at 7:30pm BST. In celebration of this special event they’ve even created a Gig In A Box experience, which contains everything you need to have your own Dream Nails show from the comfort of your own home – including your own square of sticky venue flooring. The gig boxes have now sold-out, however you can still gain access to the live-stream by pre-ordering the band’s self-titled debut album.
