The rise of Mexican rock band The Warning over the past year has been nothing short of incredible, playing sold out shows everywhere they have played be it in South America, North America, Europe … So who are The Warning? The band is made up of three Villareal Vélez sisters Daniela (guitar), Alejandra (bass) and Paulina (drums) who take turns with the vocal duties and it works amazingly well. They are about to release their fourth studio album Keep Me Fed on 28th June and it is eagerly anticipated with their fanbase around the world.
We made sure to arrive in plenty of time for support band Conquer Divide, everyone else seemed to have the same idea as the fans were eagerly anticipating a great night of music ahead. The Michigan-based all-female rockers gave their all to get the crowd worked up, opener Atonement created a good energy around the room with the dynamics of the two singers Kiarely Castillo and Madison Moon taking the performance to another level, incidentally Moon has only recently joined Conquer Divide replacing Janel Duarte, a fantastic addition to the band we would say. Five of the tracks on the setlist were from Slow Burn, the September 2023 LP, System_Failure and welcome2paradise were the outstanding tracks from the seven-track set as The Garage was now at full capacity. 8/10
When The Warning toured with Muse in 2023 it brought them into the spotlight and a lot of fans we spoke to tonight were at the Bellahouston Park gig. As the opening Intro 404 music played everyone knew it was time for The Warning to take to the stage at 8.45pm, the crowd welcoming them with a thunderous roar. February release S!CK was the high intensity start that everyone was looking for, the drums on this track were outstanding from Paulina Villareal Vélez who surely must be one of the best female drummers out there? For a band with only three members these ladies certainly know how to work a crowd, the high energy levels stayed right up until the final song of the night as the set continued with two tracks from third album ERROR – Z and CHOKE being the tracks – with the latter seeing the fans join in with the chorus “Sink in deeper, push my head/Choke me ‘til I drown, Let me drown”. Que Mas Quieres (translates as what else do you want?) is another of the new releases and even though it is completely sang in Spanish, which most folk in the crowd probably didn’t speak, the bouncy energy emanating from the stage was enough to make up for it. Two tracks from the 2018 album Queen of the Murder Scene kept the energy high with another singalong breaking out during the chorus of Dust to Dust “Dust to dust our bones will rust/And we shall start again”. Paulina, Daniela and Alejandra share vocal duties on this one as they used the full stage which helped keep the crowd onside. Dull Knives (Cut Better) continues in a similar vein, afterwards Daniela asks the fans “Are you ready for MORE?” amid wild screams from the packed Garage as the whole room is electrified with energy.
MONEY is one of the highlights of the set with an addictive guitar riff running throughout the song and another opportunity for drummer Paulina to show off her unbelievable skillset with the sticks. Survive is the only track played tonight from 2017 album XXI Century Blood while latest release Automatic Sun gives the crowd a chance to join in by clapping along, for sure one of the best tracks of the night. The last of the new songs Hell You Call A Dream was another join in moment and makes you want to listen to the new album already. MARTIRIO was the final song of the main set but thankfully the trio soon retuned to the stage for a two-song encore, kicking off with NARCISISTA, another of the Spanish language tracks and the set ended with EVOLVE from the ERROR album to an explosion of energy as the fans gave everything to end the night on a high. The six date UK tour ends in London on 27th April but it won’t be too long before The Warning are back on these shores playing bigger venues. 10/10
