ALBUM REVIEW: Vildhjarta – måsstaden under vatten

We have waited far too long for a new album from Vildhjarta, with their previous effort, the superb extended play 'Thousands of Evils', released more than eight years ago. It was important for the Swedes to come back with a bang and leave a lasting impact on their awaiting audience. Fortunately, they do not deal in low quality output and their new release, 'måsstaden under vatten', is a testament to that very fact.

ALBUM REVIEW: Mastiff – Leave Me The Ashes of The Earth

Mastiff are a band that demand your attention. Hell, they outright deserve it at this point and frankly you deserve to give them your time, because this album will undoubtedly affect you one way or another. This is bleak, this is grim and this is bloody outstanding.

ALBUM REVIEW: Ingested – The Surreption II

There are not many acts in extreme music that can toe the same sort of line that Ingested have in their career. Since their inception, the band have been at the forefront of the extreme music scene, particular in the UK, and have never waivered in their mission to create the most brutal and unyielding music that they can. Now, ten years on from their sophomore album 'The Surreption', Ingested have chosen to revisit the classic and give it the attention and recrafting that it deserves, with all the tools and tricks that have become available in their time since its original release.

ALBUM REVIEW: At The Gates – The Nightmare of Being

At The Gates are a band that should require truly little introduction to the average metal fan. Whether you are a follower of their music or not, you are most probably aware of their gargantuan reach in modern heavy music. They are responsible for one of the finest death metal albums ever committed to record, in the form of 'Slaughter of The Soul', which is the release that cemented their position as heavyweights in the scene; but it is perhaps in their consistency that the band have confirmed their legacy. With that in mind it should come as no surprise that their highly anticipated seventh full-length studio effort, 'The Nightmare of Being', is another stellar addition to the band’s already faultless discography.

ALBUM REVIEW: Devil Sold His Soul – Loss

'Loss' is proof that Devil Sold His Soul have always stood on the cusp of greatness. The world may not have noticed it up until now and frankly, it has been their loss (no pun intended). With their fourth full-length release, the band have reached the potential that they have always promised and have grown into something truly special.

ALBUM REVIEW: ERRA – ERRA

ERRA is a band that have seriously put the time in. The quintet have been consistently putting out solid slabs of progressive metalcore music, without ever pushing themselves to the front of the crowd. The band have clearly taken stock of what does well and have streamlined their sound to make things a lot more digestible. This is not to say that they have diluted their overall sound to an unrecognisable degree, but they have harnessed their strength and the result is their most captivating release to date.

ALBUM REVIEW: Eyehategod – A History of Nomadic Behavior

The word ‘legend’ gets banded around a lot nowadays, giving it little credence in the modern world. It can, however, be used when it comes to a band with the kind of influence that Eyehategod have had, over their more than thirty-year reign at the top of the NOLA sludge metal scene. The band return with their sixth studio album 'A History of Nomadic Behavior', a release that has been over three years in the making, with the band having started the writing process all the way back in 2018. They say that all good things come to those who wait, and these sludge titans have earned the right to take as much time as they need to cook up something special. So, with that being said the question must be… have they managed it?

ALBUM REVIEW: Humanity’s Last Breath – Välde

The world may be in a poor state right now. Things feel more uncertain than ever and there are seemingly fewer and fewer things that we can cling on to with any semblance of normality. One such thing, however, is that great metal bands will continue to put out great music. Humanity’s Last Breath are one of those groups. The band have a stellar back catalogue of genre-bending extreme releases under their belt, including the critically acclaimed 2019 album 'Abyssal', and now in 2021 they are back to stake their claim as one of the most reliable metal acts in the business with 'Välde', a release that promises to be a culmination of everything they have been building to musically over the past decade.

ALBUM REVIEW: Asphyx – Necroceros

Since the wheels of the touring side of the music industry ground to a halt, Asphyx decided to use their collective time positively and have written, recorded and released their tenth full-length record, 'Necroceros'.
